Summer in the city

Went to the Galway School of Arts today with Sandra and Pierre to see the exhibition of the finals of the fourth-years. Very interesting and the average quality of the exhibitions was higher than I expected them to be. There was lots of textile work (Sandra's sister was one of the students and she did some pretty cool weaving stuff), painting, photographs and ceramics too. If I had money, I'd definitely buy some of the pieces they got and wait for them to gain in value, because some of the artists were obviously really talented.

It was also nice to see lots of Irish people on a social occasion outside a pub. Everybody was pretty dressed up and I got to know most of Sandra's sisters as well. Also the weather was really brilliant, blue sky, only light wind and the sun blazing down to prove summer has come at last to Galway. The two free cups of wine I drank really got into my head very quick and helped me to better appreciate all the art ;-)

In the afternoon, after dinner, we (being Sandra, one of her Sisters, Pierre and me) were sitting on the lawn in front of our house with a bottle of wine and some cans of beer. If the weather is the same tomorrow, I really want to go walking somewhere in Connemara.

Back again

Sorry for the lack of new posts recently. I'm now back to Galway since one week and have been been busy procuring all kinds of stuff for my new home that I have not been able to bring with me. I also had to go to the Social Welfare Office three times to collect my unemployment benefits for the last three week. Apparently there are not able or willing to pay for more than one week at one time.

I was also trying to get a bank account, which proved not to be as easy as I thought. So far I have not been successfu,l because I was unable to procure a sufficient prove of address. They would accept a bill for electricity, television, telephone or something similar only I will not be able to get such a contract until I have a bank account. I guess that's just one of the ridiculous things you have to put up with being a foreigner ;-(

I will now try to start and post more often again. Sorry that there are no posts about my second stay in Galway, when I found the apartment where I'm currently living, yet. I will just continue posting recent events for now and try to add something about earlier experiences now an then.
