Is there still intelligent life here?
Yes, it is! Contrary to my promises, I didn't write anything for the blog for almost a month. Sorry about that! Mostly, this is because nothing really special happened in the last weeks. Ok, my flat-mates moved out, because they moved to Cork, so I had the appartment for myself for almost three weeks. There's a new couple moving in this sunday. They seemed nice. We'll see.
While I had the run of the house, I spent most of my time just enjoying life, playing guitar and tin whistle, reading about Irish history, going for a run, and toddling with my website. I didn't go out too much, mostly only to the Open Mic session in the cellar bar.
Today though, I went to see a film at the Galway Film Fleadh called "Hill 16". It is a 20k EUR production from an Irish newcomer director about a teenager living on the wrong side of Dublin, who's life turns upside down when he meets the attractive, alleged school teacher Cel. It was pretty impresive what the director and cast managed to do with such little resources, compensated, I guess, by all the more determination. Although going for more than two hours, the film maintained the suspense at a high level until the end.
They festival season is now in full sway in Galway, with the Galway Arts Festival starting on monday and the city slowly, but surely filling up with visitors. Those who do visit the city will inevitably stumble across the desolated and messy construction site which covers (since more than 1 1/2 years now) what used to be central Eyre Square. Really puts a damper on the overall cosy atmosphere of the city, which is eagerly trying to attract more tourist.
But that's a complicated and absurd story, which I will maybe tell another time...
